Mill Creek 2019 State Meet Summary

Congratulations to the swim team for their outstanding performance at the Georgia 7A-6A State Swimming and Diving Championship Meet. Both teams performed extremely well.  The Girls Team finished 6th and the Boys Team finished 7th!!!!

Jake Magahey led the way with two first place finishes and two Automatic All-American times!  Jake set a new NATIONAL, STATE and SCHOOL RECORD in the 500 free with a blistering time of 4:15.63!  The National Record was previously held by 1984 Olympian Jeff Kostoff who set  the record in 1983!!! It was the oldest high school record in the books.  

The relays swam extremely well: Logan Paugh, Jackson Ward, Nicholas Kalenik, Jake Magahey (400 free relay - 4th);  Aidan Delliponti, Will Pierce, Nicholas Kalenik, Jake Magahey (200 free relay - 6th);  Isabelle Andrews, Jordan Hildebrand, Mia Walters, Abigail Tashlein (400 free relay - 6th);  Abigail Tashlein, Sydney Tashlein, Isabelle Andrews, Jordan Hildebrand (200 medley relay - 7th);  Tristen Thompson, Jessica Hernandez, Lainey Lioi, Mia Walters (200 free relay - 12th); and Jackson Ward, Chase Childs, Jacob Battle, Aidan Delliponti (200 medley relay - 12th).

The following swimmers and divers scored in the meet:

Jake Magahey (200 free - 1st, 500 free - 1st), Nicholas Kalenik (200 free - 4th, 500 free - 3rd), Mia Walters (200 free - 4th, 100 fly - 4th), Abigail Tashlein (200 IM - 6th, 100 back - 4th), Isabelle Andrews (100 fly - 7th), Sydney Tashlein (200 IM - 12th, 100 breast - 14th), Tristen Thompson (200 free - 18th, 100 fly - 13th), Jackson Ward (100 fly - 14th, 100 back - 19th), Hunter Misuraca (diving - 14th), and Jordan Hildebrand (50 free - 18th)

Congratulations to all of the swimmers for their outstanding effort, spirit and sportsmanship! It was great to see the team rally around each other and cheer for each other!  It was amazing to see the show of support for Jake as he raced to his National Record!  The entire audience rose to their feet to cheer him on!  The coaches are extremely proud of each and every swimmer and diver for their outstanding season!

Thanks to the booster club for providing food for the athletes before and during the meet!  We have an outstanding group of parents within the booster club! 

A special thanks to our coaches that work so hard to help these student/athletes reach their goals: Laurel Christopher, Kali Dasher, Brittany Swanson, and Heidi Creed!!!

The team banquet will be held on Monday, March 4, in the Mill Creek Commons at 6:30 PM. 

The results of the finals will be posted on the team web site and sent out once they are available.
