Gwinnett County Championship Meet Summary 2020

Congratulations to the swim team for their outstanding performance in the Gwinnett County Championship Meet. Both teams performed incredibly well!!! The women’s team finished 3rd and the men’s team finished 4th!

Jake Magahey led the way with two first place finishes, two Automatic All-American times, and two Gwinnett County Meet and School Records in the 200 IM (1:47.07) and the 100 free (43.87). Nicholas Kalenik also finished first in the 200 free (1:41.64)! The men’s 200 medley relay team of Jake Magahey, Chase Childs, Jackson Ward, Nicholas Kalenik finished 1st (1:33.48) and earned All-American Consideration and set a new School Record! The women’s 200 medley relay team of Abigail Tashlein, Sydney Tashlein, Jordan Hildebrand, Mia Walters finished 1st (1:48.32)! The men’s 400 free relay team of Will Pierce, Daniel Roshka, Nicholas Kalenik, Jake Magahey finished 1st(3:07.70) and earned All-American Consideration and set a new Gwinnett County Meet Record!

The other relays swam extremely well: Abigail Tashlein, Tristen Thompson, Mia Walters, Jordan Hildebrand (400 free relay – 3:33.67 - 3rd), Sydney Tashlein, Lainey Lioi, Vivien Rothwell, Tristen Thompson (200 free relay – 1:41.25 - 4th), and Jackson Ward, Logan Paugh, Daniel Roshka, Will Pierce (200 free relay – 1:29.61 – 5th).

We have many swimmers earn special recognition by qualifying for state and county in each and every event. We award the Iron Hawk for qualifying for state in all 8 swimming events, Silver Hawk for qualifying for state in at least 2 swimming events and county in the remaining swimming events, Bronze Hawk for qualifying for state in less than 2 events and county in the remaining events, and Soaring Hawk for divers that qualify for state in both the 11-dive and 6-dive format.

Congratulations to all of the swimmers for their outstanding effort, spirit and sportsmanship! It was great to see the team rally around each other and cheer each other and support them to reach their goals! The coaches are extremely proud of each and every swimmer and diver. Overall, we had over 90% improvement for the meet. We have 28 state qualifiers this year! This team is special!

A special thanks to all of the parents that worked so hard to host the food table for the athletes, work the meet as a volunteer, and take pictures of our athletes!!!! We have an amazing group of parents!!

The next meet will be the Georgia High School State Swimming and Diving Championship Meet which will be held at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center, Feb. 6-8. The diving will be held on Thursday, Feb. 6, swimming prelims on the evening of Friday, Feb. 7, and swimming finals on the evening of Saturday, Feb. 8. More details will be sent out later.
