State Meet Information and Psych Sheet

State Meet Swimmers, Divers, and Parents,

The psych sheet for the GHSA State Meet is attached.  Unfortunately we were limited to only 4 entries per event unlike our County meet where we can enter all qualifiers.  This means that we have some swimmers that qualified for the meet but we were either unable to put them in the meet or they were not able to swim two events.  The coaches agonize over these decisions and we greatly appreciate everyone's understanding and support as we try to field a competitive line-up for this high level meet.  Relays are subject to change depending on swimmers' performances during the meet.  Our team has a chance to place high in this year's meet.  We hope that everyone stays healthy and focused!!!!!

Warm-up time and Team Area assignment: MILL CREEK 5:30-5:50 Bleacher N

Bleacher N is at the turn end of the competition pool on the opposite side of pool from the spectator bleachers.  Great team location since it will be easy access to both pools during prelims.  The women's prelims will be in the scoreboard pool and the men's prelims will be in the main competition pool.  It will also be a great location for finals! All of the finals will be in the main competition pool.  We were awarded a choice of team area because we were in the top five teams at last year's state meet.

Prelims on Friday
The prelims will be conducted as they were last year, with two 10 lane courses, one for the men and one the women, for the 6A-7A meet Friday evening. The big difference this year is that the men will swim in the east competition pool (located near the diving well), the girls will swim in the west competition pool (located near the scoreboard).  The diving well will be open for warm up and warm down during prelims.

Advancing Swimmers for Saturday The top 30 swimmers and relays will qualify for Saturday's finals. As was the case with last year's Championship.

Finals on Saturday and Diving on Thursday Diving
This year's format will once again be a 6-dive meet. All state qualifiers will perform all 6 dives. These 6 dives are one voluntary with a maximum DD of 1.8 followed by five optionals, one from each group. The total DD for ALL SIX dives needs to add up to 11.5 for girls and 12.0 for boys. After the prelims, the top 10 finishers will move on to the finals. The finals will take place right after the prelims. We will have a short break in between to allow the table workers to prepare. Also, the finalists will be allowed to change dives if they wish. So, if a diver wants to play it safe in prelims to ensure advancement into the finals but then decides they'd like to break out the big dives for finals we would love for them to do so. Dive order may not be changed, only dive numbers and D.D. Obviously, D.D. minimums remain in effect. Additionally, divers will compete in reverse order in the finals. This means the 10th place finisher in prelims will compete first in the diving order in finals. The point total to score points for the team is 190.00 for both girls and boys. It is the score required to qualify for the championship meet off of a 6-dive meet and so that is our threshold. Divers must reach the 190.00 point mark in either prelims OR finals will not score team points, they just have to meet the 190 point standard once to score team points. For the finals our scores will be cumulative, so in the end you may see scores of over 600.00. However, only for team scoring purposes, should a diver not reach the 190.00 mark in the prelims we will calculate the 6 dives again in finals to see if they meet the threshold...but in the results you will see a cumulative score. Just as in swimming if a swimmer does not attain the time standard in prelims he/she has the finals to try again.

How Do Finals Work - Individual Swimmers and Relays
In each event the top 30 individuals/relays will complete in 3 heats of 10 swimmers/relays, seeded slowest to fastest. There are no limitations on where a swimmer can place in an event, as you would have in a normal prelim/final meet. For example, a swimmer in heat 1 (the slowest heat of qualifiers) can score as high as first place points for their team, even though they may have qualified as low as 30th place in prelims. On the opposite side, a swimmer who swims in heat 3 (the fastest heat of qualifiers) can score as low as 30th place, even though they qualified in the top 10 in prelims. There is no situation where a swimmer in the "A" heat of finals is guaranteed of scoring no lower than 10th place, nor is there a situation where a swimmer who qualified for a slower heat in finals will be capped at scoring no higher than 11th place because they qualified to swim in the "B" heat in finals.

How Do Finals Work - Scoring Example
As referenced earlier, teams will only score points against teams in their scoring division. For example, in the 200 free, the top 5 order of finish is as follows Swimmer A from a 6A school A first place Swimmer B from 7A School B second place Swimmer C from 6A school A third place Swimmer D from 6A School C fourth place Swimmer E from 7A school D fifth place.

The points would be allocated as follows.
Swimmer A from a 6A school A first place - 24 first place points in 6A scoring division Swimmer B from 7A School B second place - 24 first place points in 7A scoring division Swimmer C from 6A school A third place - 21 second place points in 6A scoring division Swimmer D from 6A School C fourth place - 20 third place points in 6A scoring division Swimmer E from 7A school D fifth place - 21 second place points in 7A scoring division.

The point allocations, double points for relays, scoring for ties, etc... all apply as they would in a regular meet. Additionally, competitors must meet the qualifying standard in their event at least once in that event to score points. In some rare situations you may have more than 20 competitors in a particular event qualify for finals. In those situations, the swimmers who score lower than 20th place will compete in finals, but will not score points, as we will only score the top 20 places in each scoring division.

Individual/Relay State Champions and Awards
As was the case last year, we WILL recognize separate individual/relay event champions in each scoring division. Individual/Relay State Champions will not simply be the top 3 finishers from the 3rd heat of each event in Saturday's finals for the 6-7A meet, and the finals for the 1-5A meet. With recognizing the top 3 finishers from each scoring division (6A, 7A, 1-3A and 4-5A) the top 3 may not just come from the 3rd heat of each event in Saturday's finals. As is the case with scoring there won't be a situation where the top 10 qualifiers for a particular event are "protected" based on how they qualified for finals. It will be the top 3 times from 6A, the top 3 from 7A etc... regardless of what heat they swim in for finals that receive medals. As we have done in the past, we will recognize the individual and relay event state champions, runner up, and third place immediately after their event with a medal presentation behind the blocks.

Mill Creek is a 7-A school based on school population.  Our meet will include schools from both 7-A and 6-A.  The two meets are scored separately even though we will be competing together.  If a school is not listed below then it is a 6-A school.  For example, John's Creek, Dalton, Sequoyah, Alpharetta, etc. are 6-A schools. Swimmers and divers from 6-A will be ingnored when scoring the 7-A meet so if a 7-A swimmer or diver places 8th overall but there are 3 6-A competitors that finish ahead of him or her, then they will actually receive 5th place points.
