State Meet Info - Heat Sheet and Entry List attached
Attention state meet participants and parents,
Attached you will find the heat sheet for prelims and the entry list with heat and lane assignments.
Relays may change up to the event based on performance and team priorities. Changes in relays should never be taken personally. We, the coaches, do our best to put together the strongest relays possible to hopefully maximize team points for the meet. We do our best to explain our reasoning to the participating athletes. Some decisions prove fruitful, some unfortunately do not pan out as expected. We do our best to be fair and objective to all of the individuals involved.
At Georgia Tech they renumbered the lanes form 1-10 to 0-9. They did this because some of the meets they host (like NCAA's this year), only use 8 lanes for finals so they use the 8 lanes in the middle of the pool (lanes 1-8) and leave lanes 0 and 9 vacant. Lane 0 is the lane on the opposite side of the pool from the spectator stands. Lane 9 is the lane closest to the stands.
For prelims will be utilizing both the scoreboard 25 yard pool and the middle 25 yard pool. The diving well will be used for warm-up and warm-down during the meet. For finals only the middle pool will be utilized. The scoreboard pool is available for warm-up and warm-down during the finals.
The top 30 swimmers in each event during prelims will advance to the finals. The prelims are on Friday, Feb. 4, at 6:00 PM and the finals are Saturday, Feb. 5 at 6:00 PM. The bus will leave Mill Creek at 2:45 PM both days. We will be competing with both 6A and 7A schools, but places and team points will be separated by classification. In other words, the 6A swimmers and going to be placed and scored separately from the 7A swimmers. A swimmer could place 19th in finals, yet place 11th in the 7A meet if 8 swimmers from 6A swim faster. Only swimmers that make it to finals can score team points. You do not have to be in the fastest heat to place 1-10. For example, you could qualify 16th in an event and swim in the B final. If your time is faster than all of the other 7A swimmers' times in finals, then you are the state champion! So a swimmer qualifying anywhere in the top 30 can earn any place depending on performance during finals.
In diving the top 10 divers will repeat their 6 dive list.
The state dinner is this Wednesday evening at 6:00 PM at the Hamilton Mill Clubhouse.
Good luck to all of the participating athletes!
Nothing SOARS like a HAWK!
