Disc vs Dul vs Seck vs MC Meet Summary

Congratulations to the swim team for their outstanding effort versus Duluth and Seckinger and Discovery Friday night. Both the girls’ and the boys’ team finished 1st! The boys’ team overcame a 36-point deficit (due to not having a diver) to beat Duluth by 4 points (677-644-320-188) in a hard fought meet! The girls’ team won by 49 points (714-665-336-108)!

Individual first place finishes were achieved by Will Skidmore (200 free, 100 breast), Weston Skidmore (200 IM, 500 free), Vivien Rothwell (200 IM, 100 fly), Iris Ochoa (50 free, 100 free), Leah McCarthy (diving), Brayden Williams (50 free), Ileana Lopez Barnes (500 free), Allison Shin (100 back), and Audrey Privett (100 breast).

State qualifying times were achieved by Will Skidmore (200 free, 100 breast), Weston Skidmore (200 IM, 500 free), Vivien Rothwell (200 IM, 100 fly), Brayden Williams (50 free, 100 free), Iris Ochoa (50 free, 100 free), Leah McCarthy (diving), Cooper Wilhoit (100 free, 100 back), and Allison Shin (100 back).

A special congratulations to the swimmers that achieved the honor of Iron, Silver, Bronze, or Soaring Hawk recognition:

Iron Hawk (qualifies for state in all 8 individual swimming events): Iris Ochoa, Vivien Rothwell, and Will Skidmore.

Silver Hawk (qualifies for state in 2 or more swimming events and county in the remaining events): Cooper Wilhoit.

Bronze Hawk (qualifies for county in all 8 swimming events): Jackson Bollier, Justin Kurgan, and Evan Smola.

Soaring Hawk (qualifies for state in both the 6 and 11 dive events): Leah McCarthy

We have many swimmers that are only 1 event away from earning the recognition of Bronze Hawk: Ileana Lopez Barnes, Morris Peele, Kate Thigpen, Weston Skidmore, and Owen Van Houten.

This week we learned that Lydia Schwab was accepted into the Wake Forest freshman class of 2023! Congratulations to Lydia for her great work in the classroom. She is going to be a Demon Deacon!!!

We will run practice over the holidays at Bogan Park from 3:00-4:45 Monday-Thursday the next two weeks. We encourage athletes to make as many practices as possible over the holidays.

The next meet will be against North Gwinnett on Saturday, Jan. 7, at West Gwinnett at 8:00 AM. This will be our last home meet. We will recognize seniors at our last dual meet versus Norcross on Friday, Jan. 13.

Thanks to all of the parents that volunteered and worked at our meet this past week. A special thanks to our computer table volunteers Mr. Jolly and Mrs. Peele, and meet coordinator Lee Skidmore. Also we are all extremely grateful for the hard work our outstanding board has put into the season! A special thanks to Monica Lopez for her outstanding leadership as our Booster Club President. We would also like to thank Amy Smith and her family for graciously hosting the team holiday party!

Thanks for everyone’s support. We ask that you encourage your athlete to train consistently, eat properly, and get enough rest!
