The divers performed extremely well on Friday evening. Leah McCarthy placed 1st and set new school records in the 6-dive and 12-dive events. Joy Orgbon placed 12th and Bryce Buchanan-Cummings placed 14th. All three will be competing in the AAAAAA State Meet at Westminster on Tuesday, Feb. 4th.
The swimmers showed up yesterday and demonstrated tremendous energy, effort, determination, and team spirit! The following swimmers swam state qualifying times: Marlee Carmichael (200 free, 100 free, 50 free), Austin Klemmer (200 IM, 100 breast), Evan Smola (200 IM), Allison Shin (200 IM, 100 back), Caleb Jolly (50 free, 100 free), Morris Peelle (50 free, 100 fly), Grace Smith (50 free, 100 fly), Camille Roberts (50 free, 100 free), Justin Kurgan (100 fly, 100 breast), Owen Van Houten (500 free, 100 back), Kennedy Martin (100 back), and Corinne Dunnington (100 back). We have many swimmers that are close to qualifying and hope to qualify in finals tomorrow! The team had over 80% time improvement!!! It was great to see the swimmers rally around each other and celebrate each other's achievements! There were an abundance of smiles :)
We hope that all of the swimmers get plenty of rest today and sleep tonight. We still have plenty of fast swimming to achieve tomorrow!
Thanks to all of the swimmers and divers for their dedication to the team! Thanks also to the parents for your support. And a special thanks to our board for their support of our athletes and for making the athletes feel special and appreciated!
We are extremely proud of all of the athletes!
And a very special thanks to Coach Heidi not only for her great coaching, but for the way she helps the athletes overcome breathing and anxiety! Swimming and diving can be emotionally demanding and some athletes need the help and guidance to overcome some mental and emotional obstacles that can prevent an athlete from reaching their potential! Quoting Grace Smith, "Swimming is 90% mental!"
The meet results are attached and the list of those participating in tomorrow's finals.
Go Hawks!
